Gay Murga Joins Board as Director

Since the loss of her son, Army Capt. Austin Murga, on September 7, 2020, due to military PTSD suicide, Gay has dedicated herself to the mission of Military Suicide Prevention and Awareness as a dedicated volunteer, guest speaker, and advocate with a proven track record in community engagement, fundraising, and team coordination.Β

As Ambassador of Austin’s Army and Gold Star Mother, she has initiated and obtained multiple interviews with various publications, radio stations, podcasts, state and federal congressmen, and community organizations, discussing the National Security Crisis of Military PTSD Suicide and solutions. Gay holds a B.S. Accountancy, Auburn University; CPA, (licensed in State of Texas from 1983-1994); received the Department of The Army Public Service Commendation Medal; and completed training in the VA’s Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Course.Β 

With a passion for the ALC mission and a knack for fostering partnerships, Gay is eager to leverage her skills to make an impact at At Liberty Connections. Her experiences working with the public and local organizations makes her a good fit for our outreach efforts. Those experiences include:

OPERATION AT EASE/Greeter/St. James, NC (2017 – Current) communicating with military families prior to, during, and after their complimentary weekend vacation at St. James Plantation; COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS /Tutor/S. Brunswick Middle School (2017 – Current) Weekly meets with a specific set of students, who are at risk due to adverse childhood experiences, to provide support, mentorship, and supplies, on an β€œas needed” basis, Tutoring the students in their core subjects; STOPSOLDIERSUICIDE.ORG 501(c)(3) / Ambassador (2020 – Current), Co-Coordinator of The Annual Capt. Austin Murga Memorial Golf Tournament and Silent Auction / Fundraiser, which has successfully raised funds of more than $5 million indirectly and $350,000 directly.

Along with her husband, Kevin, Gay served as keynote speaker for a national commercial aired over 2 years by Fox Sports during National Football League games, Major League Baseball games, National Basketball Association games, as well as during college football and basketball games. She was also a guest speaker and co-coordinator of a presentation/workshop given to over 4,500 soldiers during a 3-month period at Ft. Bragg, NC, about suicide ideation, leadership, purpose, and resources.
